Therapy for Relational Trauma & Nervous System Healing
Relational trauma, sometimes called complex trauma or CPTSD, often develops in long-term relationships where safety was inconsistent.
You flinch at a tone of voice. You shut down in conflict. You overthink every interaction.
It doesn’t look like a dramatic breakdown. Instead, it looks like scanning the room for safety. You’re saying “it’s fine” when your chest is tight and your throat is closing. You’re freezing when you’re overwhelmed, then hating yourself for it later.
You might not even call it trauma. You just know your reactions feel bigger than the moment, like you’re living through something old and invisible.
You’ve likely learned to cope by being hyper-independent, accommodating, or always staying in control, and it’s worked for you…sort of. But your body keeps telling you that something still isn’t right.
You’re not overreacting. You’re responding from a place that still hurts.
At Rooted Therapy, we understand that trauma isn’t just what happened; it’s what happened inside you as a result. It’s the survival patterns your nervous system developed to keep you safe. And those patterns are still running the show, even if you don’t want them to.
Whether you’ve experienced childhood trauma, emotional neglect, relational betrayal, or something you’ve never even named, your system remembers, and it’s tired.
This is where therapy meets the part of you that’s still on alert…
We offer a trauma-informed approach grounded in EMDR, IFS, somatic therapy, and real, relational connection, not just talking about the trauma, but gently working through it.
In therapy, you’ll learn to:
Recognize how trauma lives in your body and nervous system
Build internal safety and emotional regulation tools
Release patterns of avoidance, shutdown, or hypervigilance
Grieve what you didn’t get and reconnect with what’s still possible
Feel more grounded, present, and whole, not perfect, but you
You don’t have to re-live every detail of what happened, and you don’t have to carry it alone anymore.
Stop Living in Survival Mode.
If you’re constantly bracing (overthinking conversations, shutting down in conflict, feeling on edge for no clear reason) your nervous system may still be stuck in old patterns.
Trauma therapy helps you feel steadier, less reactive, and more in control of your responses.
You don’t have to relive everything. You don’t have to push yourself past your limits. You just need the right support.
Schedule a free 15-minute consultation for trauma therapy in Houston (77006) or virtually anywhere in Texas. We’ll talk through what’s going on and see if it’s a good fit.
Trauma Therapy FAQs

No. You don’t have to relive every detail.
Trauma therapy isn’t about forcing you to recount your story over and over. We work at your pace. Often, we focus on how your nervous system is responding now (the shutdown, the hypervigilance, the overthinking) and gently help your system process what it’s still holding.
You stay in control of what you share and when.

We don’t just analyze your thoughts.
Our approach integrates EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and somatic therapy, which means we work with your nervous system, not just your insight. Many clients come to us after years of “understanding” their patterns but still feeling stuck in them.
This work goes deeper without being overwhelming.

Yes. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one of the primary approaches we use for trauma and complex trauma.
It helps your brain reprocess experiences that still feel charged, so they no longer run your present-day reactions. You don’t have to white-knuckle your way through it… we prepare first and move carefully.
