Therapy for Neurodivergence & Chronic Overwhelm in Houston

For adults navigating ADHD, autism, masking, and burnout. You’re used to pushing through, but it’s starting to feel unsustainable.

You’re getting through your days, but it takes more out of you than it used to.

The simple things feel harder to start and harder to finish, and it takes longer to recover. You vacillate between a mind that won’t shut off and a mind that completely shuts down. Despite efforts to stay on top of things, focus, and keep up, it still feels like your system is constantly overloaded.

A typical day consists of masking, pushing through, and holding everything together on the outside. Underneath, you’re exhausted, burnt out, and can’t quite understand why your strategies for coping no longer feel sustainable.

You’re not broken, even though it might truly feel that way. These patterns can be understood, supported, and shifted.

How Neurodivergence Therapy Can Help

At Rooted Therapy, we help neurodivergent adults move from chronic overwhelm and shutdown into understanding, regulation, and sustainability. Our work is about understanding how your brain and nervous system actually work, what’s driving the burnout, and creating ways of living that support you—rather than asking you to keep forcing yourself to fit a mold that never quite worked in the first place.

Neurodiversity-Affirming Care

  • Many experiences of overwhelm and feeling “different” don’t happen in isolation—they’re shaped in relationships. This work helps you understand how your patterns show up with others, especially around masking, people-pleasing, or feeling misunderstood, and build more authentic, sustainable ways of connecting.

  • We also work practically with things like follow-through, organization, and managing daily demands, but in a way that’s compassionate and realistic. This isn’t about forcing rigid systems; it’s about finding strategies that actually fit your brain and your life.

Support That Works With Your Brain

We work with neurodivergent adults: ADHD, autism, sensory sensitivity, and those who have spent years feeling “different” without always having the language for it.

Maybe you’ve learned how to function, even succeed, on the outside. But internally, it takes a lot more effort than anyone sees.

Here’s What Support Can Look Like

  • Neurodiversity-affirming therapy at Rooted Therapy can help you:

  • Understand your patterns of overwhelm, shutdown, and burnout

  • Work with your brain instead of constantly pushing against it

  • Build sustainable ways to manage energy, focus, and daily demands

  • Unpack masking, people-pleasing, and the pressure to “keep up”

  • Develop self-trust and a more compassionate relationship with yourself

Neurodivergence Therapy FAQs

  • No. Many of our clients come in without a formal diagnosis but recognize patterns like chronic overwhelm, burnout, difficulty with focus, or feeling “different.” Therapy can be a place to explore that without needing to label it right away.

  • A lot of our clients have. From the outside, things may look fine, even successful, but internally it takes a lot of effort to keep up. We focus on what that cost has been for you, and how to build something more sustainable.

  • Not in the way you might be used to. We can absolutely work on focus, follow-through, and daily structure but not by forcing rigid systems that don’t fit. The goal is to understand how your brain works and build strategies that actually support you.

  • It means we don’t approach your brain as something to fix. Instead, we work to understand your patterns, reduce unnecessary suffering, and support you in building a life that fits you rather than forcing you to fit into something else.

  • Yes. We offer secure video sessions across Texas and in-person appointments in our Montrose office (77006). Some clients even do a mix of both depending on their schedules.
